Saturday we went into Boston, to the South End so that Roy could get his hair cut at State Street Barbers. We combined it with a visit to the SoWa Holiday Market so I could pick up a few gifts. I’m not sure where the recession is – the market was jammed and people were buying!
After the market we ran across the street to Union Bar and Grille.
Imagine, it was wall to wall people at 5:30P but guess what? There were 2 seats at the bar just waiting for us! There’s nothing like a restaurant that is packed at 5:30, has a good buzz going on, and everyone is in a great mood and enjoying the holiday spirit!
One of the things we love about sitting at the bar is that you can meet people, enjoy the scene, watch TV, talk to the bartender or even each other if you’re so inclined – you get it! We sat next to two twenty-somethings – cousins out for the night. They were a blast and we had a great conversation with them. Before they left they sent us a glass of wine – how nice is that!! Kristina talked me into going on Facebook, something I’ve resisted forever. So a shout out if you’re reading this blog!
We love to share apps and here’s what we ordered:
- Risotto with parmesan and chives – creamy and cooked perfectly – and very green!
- Pulled pork and red onion tacos – I could have eaten another one
- Gnocchi with butternut squash and chocolate garlic – I liked it more than Roy. He thought it was a little too sweet.
- Ipswich Fried clams – meaty, sweet and crunchy all at the same time – Yum!!
- Chocolate Cherry Bread pudding – loved it
And, I can’t forget the 2 1/2 glasses of very nice albarino that we each had; a good thing I wasn’t the designated driver!
That’s it for now; see you at the bar….
It was great to meet you both as well, I have loved your articles in 2012 so far and look forward to seeing the sounds and sights of Mexico through your blog!
Thanks for reading! We’re back from Mexico and I’ll be posting as soon as I digest everything!!
