You can’t have a great meal every time out. Last night proves that point. It wasn’t exactly a bummer but Roy, me and our friends agreed that it wasn’t blogworthy. The restaurant is Sophia’s Grotto in Roslindale. Roy wanted something with a neighborhood feel and it is that. The restaurant is small, the bar area cramped and it was crowded. We had an 8P reservation and called to say we’d be late (Roy was too busy talking to our friend and forgot about giving directions). When we arrived the hostess said it would be a while so we had a glass of wine. I’m not even going to tell you what we ate. It wasn’t memorable.
After dinner, we went to Birch Street Bistro for dessert. A much better choice, the restaurant has great ambiance. The owner showed us to a table spent some time chatting. We shared a chocolate decandence cake with vanilla ice cream and a vanilla creme brulee, all fantastic. It’s a great looking restaurant, big with exposed brick walls and beautiful lighting. If dessert is an indication of what a meal is like, it’s probably worth trying out sometime in the future. Here’s a link for you: www.birchstbistro.com
So now it’s time to plan for Mexico. There are a few components to a trip: deciding where to go next; planning the trip; the trip itself. Then, there are the memories of the trip; was it all we thought it would be or not so much.
The week leading up to a vacation is spent deciding what to pack and after all these years I drag along way too much, especially in the shoe department; getting Romeo ready to go to the kennel which I don’t enjoy; the anticipation of the flight which is very stressful because believe it or not as some of you know I hate to fly. So God forbid I forget to take my little flight stress relievers with me or I’d be in bad shape!
So, I’ll be taking notes and pictures and will be back to you in a few weeks with my blog on Mexico. I think it will be a great trip and I should have some good stories. Hopefully there will be no drug cartel shoot-outs near us and I won’t get tourista! The biggest decision at hand is where to watch the Super Bowl next Sunday but don’t worry we’ll find a place and hopefully the Patriots will be victorious.
So adios and see you at the bar…..
Can’t wait to check out Birch St. Bistro.
