Back at the Bar – Chinese Mirch (again)

Well, I’ve been busy getting my new website up and running so haven’t been able to write about where we’ve been other than Bruce Springsteen.  We’ve made two return visits to restaurants we like, Chinese Mirch and Kika Tapas which I’ll talk about separately.

We love Chinese Mirch as I’ve said before. It’s our go-to restaurant when we’re in the mood for Asian-Indian fusion.  It’s a unique blend of the two cuisines.  We took our friend Arnie there last week and he agreed that the food is great.  We’ve never had a bad meal and this time was no exception.  After we ordered our waiter who now knows us sent an order of momo’s to the table, just because.  Momo’s are Tibetan dumplings kind of like Peking Ravioli.  These had a chicken filling.  He also knows that Roy likes his food hot and spicy and asks what temperature level we want the food to be.

We ordered the crispy okra dusted with chili spice.  They are outstanding. We had them years ago at an Indian restaurant and never found them again until Chinese Mirch.  I know okra can have a slimy texture but there’s no hint of that in this dish.  It’s a winner.  We also ordered a Szechuan Fried Rice which is mixed with a hot chili paste making the rice orange.  It definitely has a kick to it.  Along with the spicy fried rice we had cumin lamb which is stir fried with wine and red chili flakes and an order of hot garlic prawns.  Chinese Mirch does not have a liquor license so to make up for it they have some unusual soft drinks.  I love the “Not a Mojito”; it’s carbonated and made with lemonade and mint.  Chinese Mirch does serve dessert but with all the food we consumed it wasn’t possible to give any of the desserts a try; maybe next time.

See you at the bar….
