Del Frisco’s Double Eagle Steak House is not a restaurant we’d usually go to. We’re not huge meat eaters and opt for more eclectic menus. But we were there last night and here’s the reason why: my very dear friend who shall remain nameless was at Del Frisco’s last week and impersonated me and 2 at the bar. Okay, very funny! But, on Tuesday I received a note from her waitress thanking me for dining at Del Frisco’s and to please come back! So, we had to go. My 2 at the Bar reputation was at stake! Well, try and make a reservation for Saturday night. Impossible. We decided to have an early bird dinner and hopefully nab 2 seats at the bar at 5:30P which we did but not without a little wait.
So there we were, 2 at the bar at Del Frisco’s, the steak house of steak houses! It’s a big room with a circular bar. It has a commanding view of Boston Harbor and the airport and on the bar’s strategically placed TV’s we were able to see both the Bruins and Red Sox lose.
You have to forget prices at Del Frisco’s. It’s so expensive it’s laughable. The last time we saw these kinds of prices was on a ski trip to Courchevel, France. We ordered a couple of drinks to start; a Pinot Grigio for me and a Pernod on the rocks for Roy. Del Frisco’s has an extensive wine list and some very good wines by the glass. To start, we ordered the Crab Cake with a Cajun Lobster Sauce appetizer which was a gorgeous mound of lump crab meat and little else, followed by a classic Blue Cheese Lettuce Wedge. Our bartender, Sean suggested Del Frisco’s signature steak–the Double Eagle Bone-In New York Strip so we said “what the hell, let’s do it”. About 20 minutes later it arrived; 26 ounces of lusciousness served on plates that were heated to 118 degrees, cooked to perfection, flavored only with salt and pepper. It was like buttah! An order of Skillet Potatoes & Onions and Sauteed Whole Mushrooms rounded out our 5-star meal. We couldn’t leave without some dessert so we decided on Del Frisco’s signature dessert, the Lemon Doberge Cake, 5 layers of pure heaven. As always, we ordered more than we could eat, so the leftovers will be dinner tonight!
The total for dinner – $200.00; that 26 ounce Double Eagle Bone-In New York Strip Steak – $65! And that’s why I ask – where’s the recession? Not at Del Frisco’s. Is it better than the Capital Grille, Grille 23, Flemings, Ruth Chris, Smith & Wollensky and Moo? Maybe, maybe not, but if you are looking for a premium steak house experience, it’s right up there with the best and the view over the harbor can’t be beat.
See you at the bar…..
I was waiting to hear from 2 at the Bar on this one! No recession and it seems like they don’t mind much…. they’re not afraid to charge! My mouth is watering…sounds like this is the place; and worth it! Thanks!
