I don’t know about you but we almost never go to dinner parties at friend’s homes. We go out. But last night, we went to a dinner party.
We didn’t realize it but the occasion for the party was recognition for Roy giving P a hand in launching his new business. Being that it’s the Christmas season made it more festive.
We had no idea what to expect, thinking it was going to be a casual affair. But when we arrived we were surprised to find out it would be a sit down dinner with the table beautifully set, lots of candles, and a big Christmas tree fully decorated.
There were some things that made it special. One being the people. You know how life is 6 degrees of separation. Well that’s how it was last night. Along with our good friends, L and M, there was another couple, good friends of our hosts. When I heard the name I said I think I’m related to that person in some way and as it turned out he was that person. We’re not actually related but have an aunt and uncle and cousins in common. He’s someone who’s mother’s and father’s names I heard growing up. And now, a lifetime later, we meet at P and A’s home. Life is strange like that.
Another thing that made it special was the meal; truly spectacular all prepared by our hostess, A. A perfectly cooked roast beef with horseradish and dill sauce, popovers, a potato gratin, asparagus and for dessert a multi-layered chocolate cake with mint cream between each layer. Also, some very good dark chocolate, cream cheese brownies, compliments of L. We finally had a reason to open a bottle of Beaucastel Chateauneuf-Du-Pape which we brought along.
After dinner, a game where a person holds up a card and tries to guess the name on his card with 10 questions, some laughs and then it was late and time to leave our hosts to lots of dirty dishes!
Thanks to our ultimate hosts, P and A. A kept asking if dinner might show up in my blog. Well, my question is always “was it blog worthy?” And, the answer to that question is a big YES!!
See you at the bar….
