OK, not even a brush, but a brush by. Edward Burns, actor, director and producer. I love his movies; they are small independent films, some better than others, his best being his first, The Brothers McMullen. Anyway, he’s heading up the cast of a new movie about Derek Sanderson. Remember him? Highest paid hockey player in the NFL in the 70’s; bad boy who made a dive bomb and finally lost it all. But now he’s back with an autobiography and a movie called “Turk”.
We went to the press event at the W Hotel announcing that the movie is being made and that they are looking for money to finance the film. No we did not write a check so why did we go? Because P and A invited us through the producer who was a classmate of Roy, P and M. Roy hadn’t seen this guy since high school so we’re not talking close friends. Anyway, we thought it would be an interesting way to spend a Wednesday night.
Why was Edward Burns there? Because he’s playing Derek Sanderson’s father in the movie and he is also one of the producer’s of the film.
So who was there? Ray Flynn holding court; the director Doug Atchison who directed a great little movie called Akeelah and the Bee and will be directing Turk; Bobby Orr, the cast of Wicked Tuna, and various other local celebs.
After everyone was in the room waiting for things to get going, Edward Burns brushed by me. I was waiting in the hall with my iPhone camera ready but he was too fast for me. I got the back of his head!! I guess I’m no papparazzi!! Yes, he’s handsome; very. I’m sure that he and Christy Turlington make a dashing couple! And it was fun to see him surrounded by the media, like on the red carpet.
But we’d eaten enough hors d’oeuvres, had a drink and it was a school night. Time to get home to Romeo!
See you at the bar…..
