Fun in Cartagena

So, what else did we do and see in Cartagena?

It’s so hot and humid, unless you don’t care, days have to be spent on the water.  Our first day we took a 45 minute boat tour to a private island where we relaxed in sun loungers, walked a beautiful beach, had a big buffet with local specialties and fish just caught  and bought countless necklaces from the relentless but harmless, colorful vendors, one whom called me “Boston” and who I promised I’d buy something from but bought from his buddy instead.  Well, that didn’t fly so I had to buy a couple more necklaces to make everyone happy!

This is Isla del Encanto.  A great way to spend a Friday!

I could go on and on about the food.  Not one bad meal, seriously.  Sophisticated or down and dirty it was all good.  We had to try La Cevicheria which Anthony Bourdain stopped at.  It was well worth it.  Sitting outside on the street on a Saturday night, excellent lobster ceviche with a side of patacones, a lone singer and his guitar playing from table to table and fireworks over the city.

Music oozes out of it’s pores in Cartagena.  Turn any corner onto a little street and you’ll hear music coming out of small clubs or see people sitting in cafes watching a live concert on the TV.  This man was playing with his guitar from table to table at La Cevicheria.  We thought he’d be okay but he wasn’t okay, he was unbelievable.  We had to have him play three songs for us.

I have a little more to tell you about, so stay tuned.

See you at the bar…
