2 at the bar was out and about last weekend. We haven’t been to any inspiring restaurants to tell you about recently, some to tell you not to go to! One is Kitchen in the South End. Very blah, the menu and the restaurant. Four of us dining and we all decided it was just meh!
But, on Saturday, we cozied up to the bar at Boston Chops, a new steak house in the South End. It calls itself an urban steak bistro and is brought to us by the owner of dbar and Deuxave. It’s located in a former bank building which has been a few other incarnations but I think this restaurant will be around for a while. It’s clubby in a steakhouse kind of way and the bar is long and comfortable with friendly bartenders.
On the menu, steak frites done either prime grilled or roasted, using six different cuts of meat and your choice of 6 different sauces. Unfortunately, we’d had red meat the previous night so didn’t want to have it again.
So what did we have? If you look at that picture, you’ll see fried chicken. Yes, delicious fried chicken which was enough for two of us to share. Accompanied by sauteed kale and mashed potatoes with a bourbon barbecue sauce, it was delicious.
Oh yes, and I can’t forget the wine, a Shiraz for Roy and a crisp Pinot Grigio for me.
Before dinner, instead of bread, an individual popover is served in a single popover cup. That worked and the popover was a good alternative to bread.
We also shared a salad of frisee with lardon and a crispy whole egg. We loved scooping up a piece of the egg with some frisee and a little lardon. Really, really good!
No dessert for us, we opted to go home for some of our own.
Will we go back? Most definitely, for the steak frites!
See you at the bar….
Steak frites, a classic favorite but so is fried chicken!! This one looks amazing…like that they served it with kale. Does that make it good for you??? I think so.
I’ve heard so many good things about Boston Chops. I wouldn’t think of ordering fried chicken at a steak place but seeing this picture, I might have to convince one of my friends to share this with me, too!
It was really good! You’ve got to think outside the box!!
