That’s how many names are on the Wall of the Vietnam War Memorial. Did we save the best for last? You tell me. First up, after waiting in line for three hours Roy and Marty scored four tickets to the Premium Exhibit at The Holocaust Museum. So Linda and I had breakfast at the hotel and headed over to meet them. But, getting there wasn’t easy because all streets around the Museum were closed due to the impending Rolling Thunder parade. We finally made it and decided that first up would be a walk to see some of Washington’s iconic sites: The Washington Monument, The Lincoln Memorial, The Korean War Memorial and The Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall. On The Road
Two at the bar is going on the road this weekend – Washington, DC, our nation’s capital.

A Good Eating Weekend…and more!
I’m a little late in blogging this week. That doesn’t mean we didn’t eat well last weekend. Quite the opposite! Two nights of eating out and two good restaurants.
Meeting friends on Friday night, West on Centre in West Roxbury was the perfect midway point. One side of the restaurant is a large open dining space, with a freestanding bar in front of the kitchen which is enclosed in glass so you can see what’s going on. A Triumph of Simplicity
Malt flour, water, yeast, sugar . These are the ingredients in the bagels known as Montreal style found at Myer’s Bagels in Burlington, VT. Unlike most Montreal style bagels, Myer’s uses no salt, eggs or preservatives. The ingredients are mixed into a dough, hand cut, hand rolled, boiled in honey water which makes the sesames, poppy seeds, etc. adhere to them and gives the bagels a sheen. Then they are baked in a wood burning oven. They’re smaller, less bready and it’s easy to eat more than one (less calories too!). Squeezing Out Sparks with Graham Parker
It would have to be pretty special to drive to Shirley, MA on Sunday night in the pouring rain to see some music and that’s what we did recently. Graham Parker, the angry young man, now a more mellow older man of 61 was at The Bull Run with the Figgs. How could we miss him. He of the late ’70’s punk scene. His voice and music is iconic – Squeezing Out Sparks, Local Girls, Heat Treatment, Fools Gold and on and on. And, he sang them all along with some new material. No Recession Here!
Del Frisco’s Double Eagle Steak House is not a restaurant we’d usually go to. We’re not huge meat eaters and opt for more eclectic menus. But we were there last night and here’s the reason why: my very dear friend who shall remain nameless was at Del Frisco’s last week and impersonated me and 2 at the bar. Okay, very funny! But, on Tuesday I received a note from her waitress thanking me for dining at Del Frisco’s and to please come back! So, we had to go. My 2 at the Bar reputation was at stake! Well, try and make a reservation for Saturday night. Impossible. We decided to have an early bird dinner and hopefully nab 2 seats at the bar at 5:30P which we did but not without a little wait. Levon Helm…R.I.P
I thought I’d share this with you. It’s an excerpt from my blog about our road trip to Woodstock last summer and going to Levon Helm’s Midnight Ramble for the second time. We were so blown away the first time we saw the Midnight Ramble, we had to do it again and I’m so happy we did!
Now it’s time for the Levon Helm Midnight Ramble. The Ramble is held at Levon’s home in a studio attached to his house and is known as THE place to hear not only Levon’s band but surprise guests. Tonight, Ray Wylie Hubbard is the guest. He’s one of the Austin, Texas legends. He’s a scruffy, gruff, singer songwriter storyteller that you can listen to all night long. After Ray, Levon’s band of 12 appears nonchalantly on stage. 5 horns including sax, trombone, tuba, and trumpet, Brian Mitchell (Google him) on keyboards, 2 female singers, Theresa Campbell and Levon’s daughter, Amy and Larry Campbell as lead guitar and frontman. Larry is well-known. He’s played with Bob Dylan for many years and others too numerous to count. It’s an intimate setting, acoustically perfect and accommodates only about 250 people.
It’s a dream night if you love music. The set list is mixed with something for everyone and of course songs from The Band. Levon’s voice is not well enough for him to sing but his spirit and drumming leads the band. His smile lights up the room and everyone is so happy to see him!
